Audition Sides for Fall Shows 2019

You know why I’m here? I’m here because my friend, the President of the United States, needed a better knowledge of the arid lands of this nation. I am here because I have been given a job. So I am going to do this job to the best of my ability. And it just so happens that I’ve run more rivers than any of you all put together. I did the Mississippi when I was 17 and I’ve done more tributaries than you can name on both your sorry hands.
I am an adventure man by sport, not by livelihood. I adventure up until the risk outweighs the benefit. Allow me to explain: I was blessed with a fortune that allows me to travel widely and on my will. And suddenly, I find that this mission is no longer my will. You are all employed by the nation to conduct this mission! I was here for the splendor; the colors of the rocks. And I’ve seen quite enough of them.
The prisoners looked hard, mean and slimey, like we expected. The twelve men on the jury, as we expected, look nice, honest and decent. We learned that the word for the slimey men on trial was anarchist and they did not belong to the human race, but were more like animals who prowl, sneak and kill in the dark. As an 8-year-old boy, I believed all this, along with the millions of other people reading and talking about the trial.
You have nothing more to do with the law except to lay hands on it and throttle it until it makes its last kick. The law has degraded your brothers until they have lost every vestige of humanity, and are mere things and animals. Keep your eye upon it, throttle it, kill it, stab it, do everything you can to wound it – to impede its progress.
I been thinkin’ a hell of a lot, thinkin’ about our people liivn’ like pigs an’ the good rich land layin fallow, or maybe one fella with a million acres while a hundred thousand good farmers is starvin’. A fella ain’t got a soul of his own, but only a piece of a big one. Then it don’t matter. Then I’ll be aroun’ in the dark. I’ll be eve’where you look. Whenever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Whenever they’s a cop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there. An’ when our folks eat the stuff they raise an’ live in the house they build - why, I’ll be there. See?
When you’re young, everything is a thing all by itself. It’s a lonely thing, I know. You’re going to have a baby, and that’s something to you. That’s going to hurt you, and that’s going to be a lonely hurt. This is a time of change, and when that comes, dying is a piece of all dying.and bearing is a piece of all bearing, and bearing and dying is two pieces of the same thing. And then things ain’t lonely any more.
I notice you always got the price to go to the ball game. But when it comes to me havin' a good time then it's always: "I ain't got the price, I gotta start savin'." A fat lot you'll ever save! I got all I can do now makin' both ends meet an' you talkin' about savin'. An' don't go pullin' that stuff about bein' tired "I been workin' hard all day. Twice a day in the subway's enough for me." Tired! Where do you get that tired stuff, anyhow? What about me? Where do I come in?
Sure I killed him. I ain't sayin' I didn't, am I? Sure I killed him. Them lawyers! They give me a good stiff pain, that's what they give me. Half the time I don't know what the hell they're talkin' about. Objection sustained. Objection over-ruled. What's the big idea, anyhow? You ain't heard me do any objectin', have you? Sure not! What's the idea of objectin'? You got a right to know. What I say is if one bird kills another bird, why you got a right to call him for it. That's what I say.
